A great read for the memories.

Was anyone here at the reserve game in '77 when we got promoted thanks to Mansfield and that earlier 4-2? Had no idea it was on. What was it like and what happened at the final whistle?

I went to the Wrexham game which I still rate as one of my top 5 games attended, a great match.
However, the reserve match, I think I attended it but the day largely consisted of lager followed by more lager and the finer details seem to have faded into a bit of a haze. Shame really.

I was in the stand at the game with Fulham when George Best broke Ian Evans leg and I can tell you that was no accident.

Marred my respect for Best as he was an outstanding talent.

37 years ago but the memory is till clear in my head!

Thank you CPFC2010 for keeping me interested in football, for me no Palace no football either. Come on you Eagles.

I was there too in the Arthur Waite stand. Definitely went in over the top.

From some parts of the ground (including mine) you could clearly hear the crack. Horrific tackle that would earn him a lengthy ban these days.

A five year old child could do this! Somebody fetch me a five year old child.

Hey kermit, I was at that reserve match when we gained promotion.I think there were 4 or 5 first team players starting that day. Lots of fans in the holmesdale, or shall I say a lot more than a normal reserve match. Many of us sitting on the holmesdale. After we heard the result everyone was on the pitch and and out infront of the old stand. The players came out above celebrated and threw out there shirts. Palace ringing in our ears. Great day and probably the highest attendance for a palace reserve match ever.

Cheers NE. I was at Norbury Manor Fete with my little tranny (the radio not Cucking aged 16) when I got the final score from the Racecourse. Big swell of pride.

Wish I had bloody known about the reserve game

Ah, the 'Football Combination' where reserve games were mainly played on Saturdays and season ticket holders got in for free.

And Best never spoke to Evans afterwards at all. Shameful.

I went to the Wrexham game sat in a crappy stand that leaned to one side like the tower of Pisa and overlooked the bogs that had no roof on (oh the delights of the good old days). Loved Rachid he used to do great tricks in warm up catching the ball in his hood etc. I stayed down there and went to the deciding Wrexham Mansfield game weird experience with 3 sets of fans shouting "wrexham", "mansfield" "PALACE !"

The reserve game was against Hereford and if I remember correctly we won 4-1. The post match celebrations in front of the old stand were great. It was the day after I'd had my 21st birthday party in the hall at Sutton United and it was a brilliant birthday present.
