Worst one I can remember was Maine Road. Being got at by gangs from all those little Coronation St types roads and missiles hitting me on the head during the game. The Valley 1979 - that was bad. Fights all during the game in their end and after. Missed a big beating by a whisker there. First time I realised that some fans were a bit rude was when I was eleven in the Whitehorse Lane end waving me scarf in the faces of some Southampton gentlemen who told me 'either the scarf gets put away or they'll do me' The Old Den. Cold Blow Lane. Fvck I must have thought I was immortal or something thinking about it now. Palace loud and proud. Another escape. Big chest and massive boobs [Link]

I remember the Police bringing the horse on to the terrace round the side which was I think called the mole hill, and hitting anything in sight. luckily I ducked and he hit my mate instead.

I had many near things but got a serious pasting at Walsall..... nightmare place and Gillingham . Grimsby night match was a nightmare as was Tooting away in cup when Chelsea turned up got threatened with knife at that one ONE STRANGE ONE WAS WHEN AT a CROWDED bus stop in south Norwood high street, after Palace v Derby 100 yds from police station aged 13 got a knife at my neck and told to hand over scarfs ... by a bearded guy about 25, who then got on the same bus!!!! Leeds away when we thrashed em 1-0 when we were 3rd div and they were cup favs... Saw about 100 Leeds asking everyone going into car park the time , thought s* I.m not going through them, so went into another entrance..... so i thought. At which point the Leeds came after me. I ran like hell like a fox being chased by the hounds only to realize it was a different car park The one we were in was next to it separated by a high fence and three lines of bired wire. I was desperate to find a car or something near the fence so i could get over it and away, eventually i found an oil barrel jumped on top and a Palace fan on the otherside saw my plight and pulled open a bit the top and second bired wire which was as high as i could get. Ripped my trousers , legs and pulled some hair out geting through . Then had to dodge leeds fans trying to find coach. Found my mate's other coach, where a Leeds fan tried to come on. Then braved it dodged Leeds got back, whew! But then the Leeds opened the emergency exit at the back and started climbing in ! we had to fight like hell to keep them out. We screamed at the nutters at the front of the coach to come help us but they didn't. Then they coolly got up went to their jackets got out knives went outside and chased them off! ON the way out we gave the Leeds the customary signs. Later i was talking to A Burnley fan at an England match about this incident and he said they had same experience...... except the Leeds overturned their mini bus when they gave them the signs and then gave them all a big kicking..... Had a few scrapes over the years but one that really sticks in my mind in Birmingham at home in 1989...£3.50 to stand in the Arthur right next to the Birmingham fans, and by the end of the night I had picked up £2.50 in coins thrown at us! I was 16 and terrified not of the fighting but of the whole hillsboro scenario happening again! , seeing people being carted off on stretchers I was convinced they were dead! There was some serious geezers in the Arthur that day and i remember thinking, 4 - 1 up Im going home , only to be blocked from leaving the ground by the Law because of the Birmingham fans that got locked out milling around outside ...when we were allowed to go it was kicking off every where, and I had to literally fight my way along Park road and I remember one top boy shouting "if they are in fancy dress just lamp them" or words to that effect! they seemed to be everywhere! i remember thinking I need to get away from the crowd but also thinking im safer with them, i ended up running around the back streets with no idea where I was going hunting Birmingham fans with a bunch of proper lads I had never even spoken to! ..... I remember getting home only for it to be all over the news and my Dad telling me if I ever got involved in all that then he would kick my arse! ........

Had a few scrapes over the years but one that really sticks in my mind in Birmingham at home in 1989...£3.50 to stand in the Arthur right next to the Birmingham fans, and by the end of the night I had picked up £2.50 in coins thrown at us! To be honest , there is a story from nearly every match in the seventies and early eighties. One of of my best mates was one of the biggest palace nutters and got me into countless scrapes. 18th November 1978 v West Ham away 1-1 Fcuk me that was scary! I went with my ex Mrs and her 2 brothers, one was about 12 and the other was 20 and in the Navy on submarine training. He could handle himself. I was 24 and could stand my corner when the chips were down. We parked up and the younger brother put his scarf on, I asked him if he thought that was wise. On the way to the ground he was spat and we had a few stormy looks, but got to the ground and stood on the terrace in the "chicken run". There were loads of west ham in there and a bunch of lads formed a little posse near us snarling and spoiling for a fight, but calmed down as they went 1-0 up. Palace eventually drew level and all hell broke loose. I felt a kick in the back and turned to face the hooligans who were being driven back by my brother in law, who smacked the fcuk out of them. I got the mrs and her little brother behind me and fended off a few more attacks. We were getting outnumbered so I moved towards the police and complained. One PC who had a cross hammer badge on his tunic said "Don't come here if you can't take it!"........ Nice! We managed to avoid further trouble and got home safely, but I was so proud of my brother in law. He was awesome, but just shrugged it off saying it was nothing compared to a Saturday night in Pompey.

18th November 1978 v West Ham away 1-1

Fcuk me that was scary!

I went with my ex Mrs and her 2 brothers, one was about 12 and the other was 20 and in the Navy on submarine training. He could handle himself. I was 24 and could stand my corner when the chips were down.

We parked up and the younger brother put his scarf on, I asked him if he thought that was wise. On the way to the ground he was spat and we had a few stormy looks, but got to the ground and stood on the terrace in the "chicken run".

There were loads of west ham in there and a bunch of lads formed a little posse near us snarling and spoiling for a fight, but calmed down as they went 1-0 up.

Palace eventually drew level and all hell broke loose. I felt a kick in the back and turned to face the hooligans who were being driven back by my brother in law, who smacked the fcuk out of them. I got the mrs and her little brother behind me and fended off a few more attacks.

We were getting outnumbered so I moved towards the police and complained. One PC who had a cross hammer badge on his tunic said "Don't come here if you can't take it!"........ Nice!

We managed to avoid further trouble and got home safely, but I was so proud of my brother in law. He was awesome, but just shrugged it off saying it was nothing compared to a Saturday night in Pompey.

It was wrong Miles but at the same time for anyone between the ages of 11 and 25 it was bloody exciting and made the whole day come alive.
