Following the match this evening at Bournemouth is there any other old fart who remembers Palace then in the old third division? playing a friendly with Real Madrid. In the early sixties in the days when Madrid were really the best side in the world by miles. They had Franco Di Stefano,5 times European Cup winner, Ferenc Puskas,3 time European Cup winner Francisco Gento 8 times European Cup winner and playing for them that night. Can anyone remember the score. I am sure Palace scored through full back Terry Long from half way between the penalty box and corner post on the Real goal line, Holmesdale Road End,but maybe not.

I remember going to the match although I was quite young.
The game was to celebrate the opening of the new floodlights.
Got a feeling the score was Palace 3 Real Madrid 4.

I was there and remember very well how silky smooth the Real Madrid players were.

Terry Long did indeed score, but from just outside the box at the Holmesdale end. I was directly behind the shot which curled off the outside of his boot into the top corner. It must have helped that the RM defence backed off and practically invited him to shoot!

Later in life Terry was a close neighbour of mine and we socialised a little at local parties. I used to pull his leg about THAT goal as he didn't score too many. Nice guy. Pity he became assistant at Millwall!

Must admit i didn't know much apart from the result, but was lucky enough to be given the program by my Dad, or someone he knew when i was younger.

Wonder if it's worth anything? Will be when we win the P.L.!
