Just looking at buying a Bjorn Borg fila top and it made me think of the old clothes we thought were so cool in the eighties.
List the labels......

Me first....Benneton rugby shirts.

I didn't think anyone wanted to play.. But then I see Bin Liner replied..

I'll go with Farahs..

Oh and I had a wicked cream coloured Pringle cardigan that cost me £40, a fortune at the time.

There were some good and seriously sh1t fashions in the '80s. There are now but they were somehow worse then.

Remember when the trainer companies seriously latched onto the fact that men and boys in the UK buy trainers for the look and not always the purpose of the shoe? The time when they really started to cash in on this was the 1st Nike Cross Trainer shoes around about '88. They had a white and black pair and a white and red pair.

Fashion and the label obsession mainly originated on the terraces after they took items like tennis and golf wear and added touches and other items to them. US Hip Hop also played a part.

Did everyone in the '80s wear double breasted suits no matter what their frame was? Bad choice.

I still wear them, despite being a fat bald git in my 40s. Diadora Borg Elite, Lacoste jeans, Tachinni polo and a Fila Borg track suit top. I even still buy the original Lacoste aftershave.

I am one sad t***

Denim shirts or jeans with different matchbox size patches on like 1920's food labels.

Ripped jeans with brown leather or something behind the rips.

The Paisley shirt faze. Paisley everywhere for a year or 2.

Turn-ups. Turn-ups on everything. Jeans, trousers, the lot. For trousers they had to be worn with moccasins and the tassle until the Chelsea boot came in. They were heavy, unless you found the Hush Puppie's version which were so light they weighed vitrually nothing.

I spent approx 1977-83,maybe later (very approx!) working in the menswear trade.
worked in croydon shops & as a relief manager in eltham, orpington, bromley)
also used to earn extra as the window dressers 'boy'
helping with ironing & general presentation of gear.
said window dresser used to do a lot of west end shops & the yearly earls ct.show.
even then I'd be ironing silk shirts at over a ton, croc.belts selling @ £200.
used to be a real buzz about fashion high street trade, but cheaper gear such as Farah used to sell by the bucket.
blokes would come into shop for blue strides & walk out in burgundy, because that was all was left and they wanted farah slacks for the night out.
Waffle jumpers, peg trousers, jam shoes, box jackets, gabbicci, lois, brittannia jeans, pierre cardan.(scuse spelling)
funny thing was, after all that schmuter everyday, i just wore filthy jeans & tshirts when i got in, maybe fred perry, lois.
Working as a painter now,its the opposite after work.
Had the keys to several shops & would lie to women at bars , telling them it was my place.
Have probably got laid in half in the menswear gaffs in Croydon!

Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.
