Wasn't it John Byrom of Bolton? Not very exciting I know!

Does anyone know if Bobby Moore was in the Fulham team that played Palace when George Best's tackle broke Ian Evans' leg and effectively killed his career?
I have a video of Bobby Moore playing for West Ham against Palace at Selhurst in the 1971-72 season when 41,000 turned up t see a West Ham team with Booby Moore, Frank Lampard, Harry Redknapp, Billy Bonds, Trevor Brooking and Pop Robson. Palace had two scottish debutants which Bert Head had signed from Celtic; 14 stone John Hughes and Willie Wallace! Great game apart from Palace defeat!

Just read on Wikipedia that John Hughes was the brother of Billy Hughes who played for Sunderland in the 1973 FA Cup Final against Leeds. One of my mates went up to Selsdon Park Hotel on the Friday before the 1973 FA Cup Final and got Billy Hughes' autograph for me. For many years the FA Cup Final underdogs stayed at Selsdon Park Hotel before the big game.
Wikipedia states "His brother John Hughes (footballer born 1943) played for Celtic and Crystal Palace and was a Scotland international. He was transferred to Sunderland in January 1973 and made his debut against Millwall later that month. Unfortunately he was injured on his debut after just 15 minutes, and he had to retire due to the injury."

No, he'd finished by then. His last game was May 1977 and I think the Ian Evans injury was about October 77.
I can still hear the crack. I can also still see Rachid Harkouk trying to brain Best.

There have been rumours about players we were linked with in the 70's of the likes of George Best and Rodney Marsh...I dont beleive any of them unless anyone can prove different

I also believe that the "MR X" was John Byrom of Bolton and I think he guested for us in a Friday night friendly at home to PSV Eindhoven in early 1971 in which we were well beaten. Our immediate form after this match was awful and we fell down the table like a stone.
I have this sad ability to remember football from the early 70's as if it was yesterday. Ask me results from the last 10 years and I am easily confused!!
