Footballers of old were not set up for life once finishing football. This includes top professionals who have often reverted to interesting alternative careers on retirement. Unfortunately many just missed out on the crazy money footballers earn now.

So if you know of any ex palace pros with interesting second careers, I think we would all be interested to know.

My contribution is one peron every self respecting palace fan would be interested in. My contribution is:

Our very own Jolly Rodger who has (somewhat suprisingly) embarked on a career as a chauffeur

You may all recognise this young uniformed man........

In 2005 The Sunday Times ran a piece looking back at the Orient team of 1978 which reached the FA Cup semi and included a where are they now item for the squad which included a number of ex Palace players.
From this:
Terry Long went onto work for The Royal British Legion Housing Association;
Alan Stephenson worked as a liaison officer for an arts college in Colchester
John Jackson did various jobs including being a courier for Lewis Council
David Payne worked in Billingsgate market;
and Phil Hoadley worked for Norwich City's community programme.

I like the bit which says that to mark becoming Palace's youngest ever player at the age of 16 years 112 days he was presented with an engraved cigarette lighter

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.

I saw David Payne at the club on a mtach day a few weeks ago.

I think Jim (Lord) Cannon has his own building buisness, or he did have I think he used to advertise in our progs last season.
