Crazy to go to all that effort when they could simply have used animal skin garments for goalposts.
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

Yes, it's amazing. I guess it's hard to put yourself in the mindset of neolithic people or know what level of technology that had acquired and from where they go it. It's the weight, the engineering, the bare rough tracks (if any?) followed over 100s miles undoubtedly through chiefdoms which may not have been welcoming. The sheer devotional insanity. And there is Avebury. Not just the many henges (much larger than Stonehenge up the road) but also those really deep ditches dug fervently by the poor folk deep deep into the bedrock using nothing but the shoulder blade bones of cattle. The phrase "what were they thinking?" never more apposite.

Try and get a builder to make a patio today and you'll be amazed how they did anything in the past.

Very atmospheric.
