My father was (still is!) religious and I'm a Palace fan because the vicar at his church used to lend us his two (yes TWO!) season tickets whenever he couldn't use them for himself and a guest. My dad's vicar was a close friend of Rev. Sands and consequently I was lucky enough to meet him a few times. A lovely, lovely man. Sadly 'our' vicar died terribly young, heartbroken by the early death of his beloved wife.
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |

RIP. He lives on for as long as people refer to his books, which I still do on a regular basis.

I fondly remember his page in the matchday programmes from the 80s. Rest in peace.

Sad to hear. He was also part of the Palace experience for me. His knowledge was so deep. He really loved our club. Nice to read the tributes to someone who was obviously a lovely guy. RIP.

Just the nicest man and a real diehard Palace fan. Back in the early 80s, as a young kid newspaper reporter, I used to write a column for him for the match programme about old players and he was always hugely encouraging. He always kept in touch about Palace and, of course, our mutual fascination with Palace programme and memorabilia collecting. He will be sadly missed. Top fella.
