the point that is being missed is how he has gone form a £1m player to £20m in 1 season.

Why did we not see this potential?

Similar to Collymore in many ways, sold him for £100k and 6 months later he's moving for £2.5m.

You have to question the coaches a bit here.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

thanks for your input - not.
The thread opinion seems to vary from him being pretty average, a championship player at best to a good player who we should have kept (and of course we bought Holding on c£58k a week as a replacement).

Clearly as he's now just moved for almost £20m i think the latter of the two opinions seems to be the more accurate.

Hence my comment

It’s a shame that we have lost this talent. You can’t blame him for wanting to better himself. Dyche has been tracking O’Brien since the winter transfer window and with Textor always appearing to be cash-strapped the writing was on the wall. In the circumstances I don’t know what we could have done to keep him. At least we will have made about £5m for a £27k outlay. It shows the Academy can fund itself.

Roy showed no interest in using Academy players, except Loftus-Cheek lookalike Ozoh, and the general feeling appears to be get out while you can. Even Glasner has not used many youngsters but he has some excuse in that he needed to really get to know the first team squad. Rak-Sakyi has joined the list that is getting very long and with Mateta apparently refusing to talk about a contract extension we are potentially moving towards a Southampton situation. However, we still appear to have a solid midfield and defence but need to concentrate on goal scorers.

I think this will always be a threat to the model we look to now be employing. We have only lost Olise thus far though, with Kamada arriving at the same time, and Riad was also needed, so my faith remains that we're managing this situation well (for now).

Hopefully Sarr on the way which for me, along with Riad and Kamada, would make the three incomings the Olise/Eze/Guehi replacements, whom we probably identified as most likely targets/to leave.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
