On the other hand...I quite like having a player with a bit of 'grit'. How many times have we bemoaned throwing points away because of "poor game management" as the big clubs would call it, or "failure to cheat a bit"? Agree. 'Keep your head and don't do anything silly PLEASE' but love to see a bit of fight on the pitch. My favourite thing about Munoz was seeing him chase down goalkeepers from RB last season (lol). Though I did also think 'get back in position!!'.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Such a sad sight watching our hero trudge off but at least Jeff did the business, our boys have certainly been involved in this tournament one way or another

Uruguay players completely lost it after the game ,started fighting with their own fans in the stands .Showing a bit of fight certainly had a different meaning to them but then South American football has always trod the very fine line of sport and war

3 minute highlights . . .
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Lerma & Muñoz "star" in Colombia-Uruguay ' by becky Such an insane game, PROMINENTLY featuring our own two men, that I thought it deserves its own thread... First, Jefferson Lerma scored on a header by leaping so high you think Palace should aim for him every time we take a corner kick. Second, after a wonderful, active first 40 minutes featuring his own leaping header (not a goal but WOW!) and a crunching tackle that earned him a yellow card, Daniel Muñoz was ejected for a foolish, sharp retaliatory elbow to the chest of a player who had apparently pinched him during a stoppage. Second yellow = red card, so right before halftime, Colombia were down to 10 men. In the 2nd half they held on bravely, despite missing 3 of the easiest chances you'll ever see, and despite Uruguay's missing several chances almost as easy. In addition to these breathtaking chances missed, the second half featured very ugly rough play, insufferable diving and stalling, yet almost unbearable tension for both sides because of the 1-0 score and the 11-v-10 dynamic for the entire 45+7 minutes. Final score: 1-0 to Colombia, who face Argentina in final. After the match, angry Uruguay players entered the stands to fight Colombia fans who were being "disrespectful." All of this, of course, took place in a match before 70,600 fans in a stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, 2000 miles from Colombia and 5000 miles from Uruguay. Highlights: [Link]

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Lerma & Muñoz "star" in Colombia-Uruguay ' by becky I’ve watched the Colombian games and no one can say our boys haven’t been involved. Munoz deserved to go, last night, a reckless tackle from behind and an elbow. It must be hard keeping your cool though in those games, Colombia and Uruguay have always had a nasty streak. It’s harsh on Munoz having to miss the final. It was an instinctive reaction to being punched in the ribs by one of their players who then falls to the ground as if he’s been shot. I doubt Muñoz even thought about what he was doing or the fact he was on a yellow card. I doubt he’ll be subject to that kind of thing in the PL although he will get yellows for the way he tackles on occasion especially when wingers are very adept at multiple rolls while grasping their “injured” ankle. Not a big fan of VAR but I’d be happy if they could review yellows and catch the cheating so and sos who go out of their way to get players booked.

Come off it, much as I love DM, it was a reckless tackle and a blatant elbow, he could’ve gone for the elbow alone
