Clearly this is a Friday eve post pub thread... but...

Can you imagine France with Mateta and Olise

England with Wharton

Since when has this even been a passing thought in a tournament

Do you mean Mitchell - who would probably be doing a better job than Trippier?

Wharton is in the squad and should, if Southgate had any sense, be starting the next game

I also think England really need Wharton, but I bet he doesn't get a single minute at the Euro's.

Surely Southgate can't ignore the youngsters any longer. Not now he can see that all the other top teams are playing youth.
Although GS ha no idea of game management, systems and skill, peer pressure must now surely be enough for him to start Wharton. He won't regret it.
Linker, Shearer and many more have spoken Gareth, I hope you are listening.

Yes, but apart from all those minor requirements of a head coach...

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

It’s still hard to believe any England manager who can pick a squad of 26 great players is still playing players out of position, Trent, Trippier, Foden and still state that the experiment with Trent didn’t work, what the fcuk is he doing experimenting actually during a tournament.
previous England managers have got absolutely slaughtered for playing players out of position with the choice at their disposal, especially Graham Taylor!!

And I’m sure the only possible reason he didn’t pick Tyrick on current form to actually have a balanced back four is because he probably said to his staff he couldn’t possibly pick FIVE palace players for the squad, it’s a minor miracle we’ve got four

Wonder if he’ll ask Kane to take the corners.
