Todays team could be:
Johnstone
Richards..Andersen..Guehi
Munoz..Wharton..Doucoure..Mitchell
Olise..Eze
Mateta

Subs, Hendersen, Clyne, Ward, Jairo, Tomkins, Holding, Lerma, Hughes, Ahamada, Schlupp, Franca, Rak-Saki, Edouard, Ayew

25 players, is it a lack of squad depth, problems with the training, Physios or just Unlucky.

It's become more complicated than just one thing. It's a series of poor decisions by the club, coaches and Roy. Glasner is not (yet) to blame for any of it.
It looks from the outside that our sports science and medical team are not up to scratch - that's on the club. It's hard to know about this: we seem to have more injuries than most and we've generally played less games so we have to consider this an issue.
We've had really poor recruitment in several windows. The unbelievably poor one was the beginning of this season. I have a personal feeling that Zaha f***ed us, but we should have still been cleverer and replaced. Franca is not a replacement - who's this on? It's Parish, Dougie and Textor. Maybe Roy being too docile with Parish. Maybe Textor insisting on Franca who is clearly not MacAlister, unfortunately.
Then there's the extension of contracts - some you just think "no way" but it happens. Plus selling O'Brien - that looks really stupid now - in my opinion. Had we renewed and upped his squad status we would not be relying on Holding (who was not worth buying) or Tomkins (who was not worth renewing). Who's this on? Parish, maybe Dougie - certainly Textor Arthr Daley.
Then there was Roy, no useful substitutions, never use youth - hence their lack of development, hence our lack of being able to use them. The over-reliance on one eleven with Roy - again leading to injuries. The one tactic with Roy - hence everybody got round it. But also Roy should never have stayed on - he did well temporarily and that should have been that. So it's as much on the owners as Roy.
We've also been unlucky but, of course, you make your own luck. Olise getting injured for France U21s for instance but injured when he came back to quickly, that's us pushing our luck. Doucoure - unlucky but did he play too much? Lack of cover and lack of subs exacerbates all of this.
These are my rambling thoughts anyhow, I could say more but may as well shut up as I'm not doubt boring everyone.

All written obviously with the benefit of hindsight.
What we have to do now is look forwards and it looks like Glasner has a good eye.

You could say hindsight, but plenty of fans had brought up these issues at the time. What did happen more was the issues combined into what we have now and the position we find ourselves in. Indeed, it's not really time to complain. Let's just survive what has been a frankly rubbish season. Fans do like a good moan though - and a good celebration. Believe you me, I'd like a lot more of the latter.
I do think Glasner is a step in the right direction, as were Munoz and Wharton. A lot of the rest, I'd rather forget.

No club could succeed losing their 4 best players for much of the season, like we did. If we had Doucoure, Olise, Eze, and Guehi fit for most of the season, we'd be on the beach a month ago.

That being said, the board f-ed up massively with Henderson and Franca in the summer. They almost made up for it with Wharton and Munoz in January, but it might be too little too late.

Also, as much as I was happy to see OG come in, his results have been no better than Roy. 2 points against Luton, Forest, and B'mouth is abject crap, and I'm confident Roy would have gotten at least 2 points, maybe more.

We have only 2 wins in 2024, against SheffU and Burnley. That's embarrassing.

Liverpool is a lost cause. The matches after that will determine if we stay up or go down. Luton can still get more than enough points to pass us.

Lerma is a defo starter for me weather its centreback or midfield

good post.

I've said for the last 2 years Tomkins can't play at this level anymore, yet he's twice been renewed, reportedly on c£50k a week.

We are so short of CBs and are playing midfielders and RBs alongside Andersen, yet Tomkins sits unused on the bench. Speaks volumes

I don't think Tomkins is up to the pressing demands of playing under Glasner.

TBF he is 35.
I can't see him being offered another contract

On the recruitment situation no one is going to get it right all of the time and that applies across any business let along clubs in the premier league. The important thing is to get it right more often than not which i think we are. Clubs like Man United and Chelsea are good examples of what happens when you get it wrong more often that you get it right.
I was perhaps in the minority as i've never seen Henderson as a poor keeper and had him marginally ahead of Johnstone as to me he is a bit sharper and more agile. He was certainly at his best on sunday.
Franca has youth on his side but apart from his cameo in the away game against City he has still got a lot to prove. Perhaps he might be one that might not work out. It definitely felt more of a Textor related purchase than a Freedman one at the time.

Vieira and Roy didn't play him either. He's earned about £5m over the last 2 years and contributed nothing.
