The key in Glasner's tactics is that we are winning the ball far higher up the pitch, often in the opponents' half.
Glasner was eloquent in the post match press conference about this aspect. In winning the ball higher he said
- Mateta is closer to the penalty area rather than the halfway line when he receives the ball which makes it easier to score
- players prefer a short sprint to win the ball back quickly rather than have to make long recovery runs chasing back after opponents.

It's a marked difference to the tactics of the previous regime where we sat deep and tried to block routes to our penalty area.

The new tactics require high levels of intensity and fitness and let's hope that we can sustain it into next season.

you are not wrong, however, it is not just about fitness but a different type of fitness.
Doing lots of short burst of 10 to 15 yards is different from say running 10k. Mateta previously spent a lot of time as the sole striker running to cover the CBs and as OG mentioned was starting forward runs from the half way line. Now he is doing more runs, but shorter distances.
It's a different type of fitness and it is clearly agreeing with him.

Hughes suffers from unjustified criticism from certain sections of supporters, who don’t accept that not everyone is perfect, but his commitment cannot be questioned. In recent times Ayew, Mateta and Mitchell have all been written off, but now are valuable first team players.
That’s why people who know what they are doing are in charge of the team, not supporters.

Now he is super fit he is an asset.
As he was under Roy he was not good enough.
