We've been decimated by injuries this year. It seems to me that this season, more than any others, is being defined by the long term injuries teams are sustaining, or not, and how the schedules are working out with the opposition.

For example Luton tonight have a relatively short injury list and are playing Liverpool minus a host of first team players. I appreciate the top teams have large squads but this issue is seriously affecting both ends of the table. Is it the extra time being played or is it some increase in intensity or some other factor?

It maybe that there is a problem, with our training or medical staff, I really don't know.

However we have been fairly injury free in recent years with the obvious exception of Ferguson who was never fit when we signed him.

Perhaps our luck ran out this season and it's our turn in the barrel.

I've been wondering recently... I see a lot of people say we work players too hard in training and get injuries, but other comments saying we concede late goals because we aren't fit enough. Is one true? Is the other? Can both be possible? Or is this just social media/forum comments/agendas in a nutshell?

I guess you could be over tired with training leading to fatigue in matches. Would also likely cause injuries and a loss of concentration late on in matches.

I don't think there's anyone on the forums that particularly knows our training methods and schedule - so it's all guesswork and conjecture really.

Conversely, training could be too easy - leading to lack of fitness and higher injuries. It's impossible for us to know.

One thing we do need to train on is set pieces - that's for sure.

Another potential issue is the watering of pitches which every premier team does before each game and half time. All to do with the grass I think. It must increase the risk of slipping and sliding and therefore overstretching soft tissue leading to musculoskeletal issues.
