I went to a Bromley game earlier in the season and it was a female ref. She did okay, made a couple of iffy decisions, which is fine, it happens to the best. But what I noticed is the definite improvement of the respect the players showed her, obviously because she was a woman, there was no dissent , no arguing the toss and I even noticed a couple of times players in the heat of the moment visibly swung round to give her a mouthful, but then suddenly stopped in their tracks when they remembered it was a woman official.

So basically if it has a positive effect like that and stops dissent, all that whinging and whining at every decision, then the more the merrier

Agree with that Monkey ,from my own days of kicking lumps out of centre forwards a lady ref does give you a different mindset as to the verbals .
As players and really they are the only ones that count ,they soon know if the ref is up to job and there is really no reason why that doesn't mean lady refs .
What I don't like is the positive discrimination to fill diversity quotas which this has all the hallmarks of .Being promoted to the Premier league list because of gender or race rather than ability will just see standards drop IMO.

As long as she's competent then why would anyone even notice? Those trying to make it a gender issue are just demeaning her achievement in getting where she has.

Ironic that certain people are agreeing with meritocracy over a woman ref but don’t agree with a certain demographic of a manager being sacked because of a decision based on meritocracy.

Rebecca Welch was the first woman to referee an EFL match probably 2 seasons ago.

I have seen some female referees at senior grassroots level and their performances were worthy of credit.

i have a fantasy football scenario. Watching nightclub woman-puncher & rapist Marlon King getting an early red-card in a crucial football match.

Within a few years we won't have refs. They will all be Bots. We will have security on the pitch managing player behaviour. Women could well be the solution for that role.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
