Who is the left winger then because Eze is a central attacking midfielder and Olise is a right sided midfielder/winger? Neither score as prolifically as Zaha and neither impact the game as much as Wilf did although when played together they benefit us as you can’t afford to put two defenders on both.

If we had picked up a proper winger in the summer we would carry a lot more threat on the left side than provided by Schlupp or Ayew or whoever else Roy picks.

Franca is primarily a central attacking midfielder and would probably play in the same position as Eze which again begs the question why he was bought ahead of a Wilf replacement.

Maybe the incoming manager who I'm hoping Parish has lined up doesn't play with wingers or for that matter matter full backs . The only way our transfer policy makes sense is that the new man prefers a 3 at the back , wing backs system . No buys in January would reinforce that theory (for me anyway)

I agree with this.
It’s not as if we just haven’t signed a left sided forward because we’re worried about blocking the progress of a brilliant left sided youngster. There isn’t one that I’m aware of.
Conversely on the right we’ve got Olise and Ayew who usually occupy the position with youngsters Rak Saki and Ebiowei as options.
We’re spoilt for choice on the right side while players have to be shoehorned into position on the left of attack whether it’s Eze, Schlupp (both midfielders)or occasionally Ayew.
They’ll do a job but are not long term solutions.
I know some prefer Ayew on the left, but for me it always narrows the team with his reluctance to go down the line or use his left foot.

Devil's advocate -

Guy hasn't played a lot of football. If he started and did well tonight, he'd have to start on Saturday when we play the team where the DMs will be most important. You then have him play 3x 90 mins in 7 days having not played one for ages. It's an injury waiting to happen. I'd go for someone more offensive tonight, which I think is giving Ahamada his opportunity - we will have to have some rotation in the team this week to keep players fresh for Liverpool.

Johnstone

Clyne Andersen Guehi Mitchell

Hughes Ahamada

Olise Lerma Schlupp

Edouard

Leaves Ward, Ayew, Richards - who, let's face it, aren't the greatest going forwards - fresh and available for a hell of a lot of running on Saturday.

I'd then be very keen to see Franca get 20 mins or so over Schlupp. No better time to bed him in for participation off the bench in the tough upcoming run than tonight.

Wilf used to tie them up in knots so unless Olise can do the same a score draw would almost be welcome!

You would settle for a draw when we've won 1 in 7 in our best run of fixtures of the season and are coming up for the hardest (iirc)? Never let it be said Palace fans are too demanding

Bournemouth have not kept a clean sheet away from home all season.
Until now I presume.
