I'm not surprised, there is plenty support for a United Ireland as a theoretical concept however once you get to the practicalities.. Do the Southern Irish want 1mm disgruntled Northern Irish citizens, probably not, so then how do you placate them? If you can answer that question you'll get a Nobel Peace prize. More to the point does the government of Southern Ireland want the financial basket case that is Northern Ireland. I'm equally sure that the majority of Brits couldn't care less what goes on over there and those likely to vote for Corbyn are too young to remember who Gerry Adams is anyway

He is no longer a member of the Labour Party. The Tories keep their failed politicians, Boris the teller of endless lies and the first Premier to ever be Fined by the Police,Truss the Premier who borrowed to fund tax cuts and somehow last 42 days as Premier and capsized the economy and is the reason that interest rates are now so high. Now Sunak who asked wether his "team" thought they could win the next election and the Director of Communications walks out! Most people do not want the Tory motley crew according to the opinion polls, Labour has a 19 point lead.

If JC had become PM in 2019 things would have been a lot better:- It looks so relevant now, 13 years of tory austerity and ideology, brexit, have brought the country to its knees. Starmer & Reeves appear to be clinging to a failed model. But as London Mayor Jeremy not really, what for, btw the contest is going to be FTP not the usual system.

NI citizens have access to both passports, both Labour markets, and all the benefits & advantages of both countries....North & South. They can be in or out of the EU, as they wish. Which affords much advantage when owning property on the Costa Del Sol or deciding on inheritance, property rights or other stuff. Or NI Catholics have access to all the benefits of UK citizenship...NHS etc. Yet many want to be in the Republic...with its poxy healthcare - 60 quid for a 5 minute visit to a GP. a Divorce makes sense when the other party is incapable of happiness, gratitude, or ever giving anybody any respect. I have previously proposed a 3 County NI, 100% British Prod. And if the DUP ever get bolshy, then 10 Downing Street should threaten to offload half a million longterm-unemployed 'Brits' out of East London & Thornton Heath.....in keeping with the Benefits Cap. we all know NI is a cheap place to live. the Mayor ? who cares ? The markets would not have reacted well to such an outcome but probably not too different. What would be different are the prospects for the 2024 GE. The Tories would now be blaming all the problems onto Labour and not the reverse. They would have distanced themselves from Johnson who would have been blamed for the defeat and from the right who enabled it. Thus reborn as a modern party who are both socially and fiscally responsible, with the right marginalised and Johnson forgotten and making noises about a new approach to our EU friends, they could romp back into power. Not to be though. It must wait for another 5 years.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |
