Brings into focus all those continual calls for ambition and spending. What was it that Thatcher said about money and socialism....something like that. Not really, it's money generated by the club being in the prem, parish and cpfc 2010, put their own money in, knowing we would make a loss of 8 million a year in the championship. Which they would have to foot. The Americans have just bought shares in the club that they will all make profit on anyway.

Isn't that forgetting the massive costs of actually being in the Premiership that'll do a lot to offset that as well? Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Sep 2023 6.12pm)

I started a thread on our lack of income from sales a couple of months ago and you can add another £0 window to that list after this summer. Us being high up this table doesn't mean that we are a high spending, ambitious club. If you did a league table with the amount of transfer fees paid in this time we'd be way down it. What it means is we have basically spent the money on players with no resale value.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

This highlights what I've pointed out on a number of past threads, which is that in the last 51 years (since I've been a fan) CPFC has been uncannily bad at selling players for more than they cost to sign.

Or perhaps I mean uncannily bad at buying the calibre of player who will increase in value through playing for us. Maybe the tide has turned with the current squad though, based on the last few months' click-bait reports. Edited by YT (07 Sep 2023 5.47pm)

It's about building up that conveyor belt of talent coming through.....that's what the big clubs have and that's what any clubs rising through the ranks needs to do. It's very important to have scouting that is more hit than miss. No point selling Zaha, if he's keeping in you in the division....but if you have his replacement or another star ready made then that's what happens. The big clubs have big squads full of players on the bench who could easily make the first teams outside of the top six.

Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Sep 2023 6.12pm) I'd like to see how much money we've generated vs wages and transfer fees over the last 10 years. Tv money has pretty much been the same since 2016. I just don't see how harris and blitzer would have invested any substantial amount of money apart from the original money they used to buy shares, but its their money to spend how they please, it is what it is. Then you have textor with his multi club ownership with the main benefit being, you can pass players around clubs without spending anything.
