The technical striking of the ball was great for the Plymouth goals. Edoard also needs ball to feet, where would our headed goal threat come from?
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Jean-Philippe Mateta seems to be a player that needs through balls to play to his strengths and generally this has not been how Palace play. Against Plymouth two goal were through balls and he indicated where he wanted the ball played. The goals he scored in Germany were mainly through ball or chasing big balls out of defence. There is a good striker in there, I hope Palace can get the best out of him. I was there sitting level with where he hit them so very close. They were absolute bullets. On target and no goalkeeper would have a chance. However, he was given a huge amount of time and space to do it, something just not available in the PL. His first goal was very different and showed a clever technique. It's the rest of his game that is lacking. Many moves break down through his poor passing and lack of an ability to hold the ball up.

Really good finisher, not a great footballer.

Mateta and Edouard are both 1-goal-in-3/4-games strikers in this team. Partly though the reason they don't bring more is because they are not bringing enough to our wider play to help us as an attacking force. However, in goals-per-games terms, both are pretty bog standard by the standards of teams around us. Probably, they need minutes to build understanding with their teammates. The reality is, we cant afford anyone better, unless its a loan.
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

Generally they've got 10-12 years if they are lucky, so why not join a club where you get to play competitive games. For someone like Mateta, if it's the money he wants, then just head for Saudi. He'd be a super star there.

Point proved at Brentford when he was slipped in and hit a similar shot and Pinnock slid in and blocked it. I'd rather start with Mateta than Eduard though who doesn't run and is incapable of playing 2 yard passes. Edited by eritheagle (01 Sep 2023 12.50pm)
