Congratulations, Joel. To any pant-wetters, I would say that club captain is relatively meaningless in terms of being selected for the starting XI.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Yes, it says what a great servant he’s been and is someone who is well respected by his team mates

A deserved recognition to his service over the years .I just hope if he comes off the bench there isnt all this passing the armband stuff with the match captain . Completely unecessary , we all know whos who and just confuses the poor ref

Good move. Ward has developed well and deserves this recognition which I believe will be well received by his teammates too.

Other names such as Andersen and Guehi have been put forward for the job on here in the past, but Roy clearly sees Ward as a player unlikely to move on before the season's out.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Exactly. Think of Luka last year.

Why has Wardy never been given a testimonial, after, what is it, 13 years at the club? Congrats on the Captaincy.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

I am sure he will get one when he announces his retirement. Palace haven't quite finished with his services yet, great servant of the club.
He might even continue with us in a coaching capacity when he finally retires as well who knows.
In any case we still have worthy other players to pass on the armband to in matches at the moment. They may not be here by the end of the transfer window but there still here now!

I heard something about one - I believe it may have been due during COVID or something, so there were obvious problems. But just a fleeting memory.
