One of the very few Portuguese language songs I know of is Mas Que Nada, and with my earliest memory of it being in the Nike TV advert from 1998 I have always associated it with football, and particularly Brazilian football. I would love it if we could come up with a song of our own based on it, but I’m not sure the melody or lyrics really lend themselves to it very well. Having said that, ‘Mas Que Nada’ could easily become ‘Matheus França’, or even ‘Matty França’ to make it scan a bit better. Probably no one has ever called him Matty in his life, but in time maybe a few of us will! The opening lines of the song, ‘Oariá raiô, Obá Obá Obá’ don’t seem to mean anything at all, so could probably be kept as they are and might actually sound pretty good. After that though, and then saying França’s name…I’m a bit stuck! This is the Nike ad which featured the song. I’m sure a few of you will remember it. So if anyone’s got an idea how we could carry it on from there, I’d love to hear it. Maybe we could just sort ot ‘la la la’ the rest!

His name rhymes with dancer and not tanker like a lot of people think it's pronounced... Here comes Matheus França, he's a Samba dancer, he's got all the skill and flair. Scoring Goals for Palace, he's got more moves then Pete and Alice, take him on, if you dare!

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

His full name is Matheus França de Oliveira, according to the EPL Injury Table website. Maybe his back injury is as a result of carrying all those letters on the back of his shirt.
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |
