Has anybody else noticed how the benchmark fees for merely good players appears to have dramatically increased this summer?
Brighton have supposedly rejected an £80 million offer from Chelsea for Caceido wanting closer to £100 million.
Forest are apparently looking for in excess of £50 million for Johnson.
Man Utd have just splashed out in excess of £70 million on a Danish kid I've never even heard of.

These types of fees used to be reserved for the truly exceptional players but have now become the norm.
I'm not sure what's caused this sudden spike in fees (state ownership of clubs?, the Saudi effect?),but I don't see it as a healthy development.
Fulham are apparently now pricing their replica kits at more than £100 and it's not uncommon to see ticket prices for games in excess of £60.

I'm a huge fan of the game but fear for the future.
I think we're not too far from a situation where Premier games will be played overseas, super leagues are formed and, if the American owners get their way, relegation is banned.

In two words "Todd Boehly"?

The jeopardy and fvcking the plastic clubs from time to time is why we support Palace IMO.

What's the point of supporting City, Chelsea, Liverpool, some Saudi retirement home ? how utterly boring. load of w***ers.

If you want a clue of the future direction of football the sports section in my paper today gives a clue.
Not one word on the start of the Football League season this weekend including the Championship.

I noticed last season that some papers only covered the games of the the top 6 clubs in the Premier League too.
It’s as if you don’t exist if you’re not in the top 6.

This won’t bother many who limit their interest in football to Palace exclusively, but personally I take an interest in the other leagues too.
The Greed is Good league.
You’ll get pages on the Man Utd takeover, but not one word on which team is excelling in the Championship.
I think it’s only a matter of time before the billionaire owners try to carve out a bigger share of the TV revenue to further distance themselves from the ‘riff raff.’
