Tony Bennett, Superb, But Sinatra was Chairman of the Board

Sinatra always rated Matt Monroe who was a generation younger. I don't know if Frank was just being polite or if he really meant it.

Dean Martin a great crooner always used to say that he just copied Frank but I think he was just been self deprecating.

It was all about the phrasing with Sinatra. Bennett was a better singer.
Neither could sing like Pavarotti nor any good opera singer, but it's not really about range. It's about eliciting an emotional response.

Sinatra was a better arranger of songs. For Sinatra, it was all about the, . . . .
,....
timing

You are right, Sinatra said he was the best he had heard, and odd Sinatra peculiarity, he would have a new pair of socks every day.

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

Not True.

Sinatra rated Bennett as number one.

My mum always though Andy Williams was the best crooner.

Touch my coffee and I will slap you so hard even Google won't be able to find you.

Andy Williams is not quite up to Perry Como level for me - the original is Bing of course, he realised the microphone and the radio meant you didn't have to welly it opera style.

As for Tony Bennett i liked his stuff and his voice, but i really loved it when he talked about Hollywood, the mob and the business elite - fascinating insights from direct experience. RIP.

Excellent point without the advances in microphone and speaker technology and of course radio and gramophones I doubt any of the crooners would have had the same careers.
