I started this thread with a dig at GnR who I hate, together with the whole stadium friendly blues/heavy rock thing.

I caught up with Queens of the Stone Age last night and remembered there is a big place in my heart for loud guitar music but of a different variety. Give me them, the Pixies and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs any day of the week.

However, it was Josh Homme liberally swearing at he audience that caused me to ponder. I had my little pre school son on my knee when I watched him do the Cbeebies evening story read, one of the weirdest things I have witnessed on TV.

Another was a less successful reality show about farming where 2 of the contestants introduced themselves - one being Flavor Flav from Public Enemy, the other being Keith Harris AND Orville. In my wildest dreams...

No I haven't.

His material was very patchy, and I thought he was a bit of a t*** to be honest. He did however create a sound that was part of how people imagine the '60s was. 'Sunshine Superman' for example. My personal favorite was 'Hurdy Gurdy Man'.

In reality, most people were listening to stuff like Engelbert Humperdink.

Stevens was doing pop then. His great period was a couple of years later in the early'70s.
'Tiller Man' and 'Teaser' are better than anything Donovan ever dreamed of doing.

Strangely my son mentioned Donovan and I asked him how he had heard of him as usual the answer was The Simpsons and the song he liked was Wear your love like heaven.

At the Golden Jubilee Kermit the Frog appeared over Ozzy Osbourne's shoulder. For a brief moment Ozzy looked like he was sure it was some sort of acid flashback.
