I think this is crucial this year, if we cant get a couple of expensive players, maybe Nketiah and Hudson odoi for instance, our main players could stay all season and if they perform well, then we can sell one to finance the signings.

Things being crucial matter little to us. Like the year we had no left back, or when we had one striker - who was injured. We still didn't loan anyone in.

However, if we can get at least 10-12m from Genoa for Mateta AND if Zaha walks away, we'll have 20m plus towards a striker and I would hope and indeed expect the owners to fork out the rest needed to buy one. Whether this happens or not I think you are right - we should go for a loan with an option to buy - perhaps even accepting an obligation to buy if the player starts a certain number of games. Someone like Nketiah might go for that on the basis that he would expect to be given a run of starts to show what he can do.

I agree, you get to try before you buy, if the fee is agreed and an option, by the start of 2024/25 Guehi could be worth 120m

I think the key is option not obligation. Are you saying that we took JPM on loan with an OBLIGATION to buy him? What sort of insanity is that?

I think Palace also need to bring some players to the first team. Adaramola is a good player can challenge Mitchell for LB spot. Ozoh is another good prospect could be better than Hughes and Riedewald. And maybe Rak Sakyi (Zaha most likely leaving) and someone who can play full back like Rodney RB has never been replaced since AWB left. We always hear how good the academy is we need to see more players come through for teams like Palace who do not spend big the academy is crucial.

But would cost a lot sine on contract til 2027 Edited by PJEagle (25 Jun 2023 2.34pm)
