So we're all stupid? Thanks. I'm guessing us all being Communist intelligesia would be preferable. We could all debate the theories of Mao vs Trotskyism or Stalinism's roots in Leninism whilst drinking instant coffee in a state sanctioned cafe. Actually, sounds kind of fun.

What we get are lies.

Our real system is very Soviet, which essentially was also built upon lies....but our system is less corrupt...there's that, but it's still corrupt.

But that's the human condition. Corruption is only ever a question of degree.

What you want are the best brains at the top with loyalty to the people they serve.

That's why we are fecked.

We can point to many things....the left for damaging the meritocratic educational system at the top with their obsessional egalitarianism for example......but it goes much deeper than that.

This is a very odd POV!

You are unbelievably cynical about the "human condition". Something that has been responsible for our transition from being another animal to where we are today, with our dominance, complex societies, cultures and technology.

You talk only about corruption. Sure some are corrupt, and it's part of us, but far more aren't, and put in place checks to root it out.

Ensuring the meritocratic reach the top is certainly desirable but isn't that what egalitarianism is essentially designed to achieve? To enable opportunity for all? The mistake is when we try to allocate jobs evenly and not opportunities evenly.

Of the 7 MPs who voted in favour of a serving PM lying to Parliament, one is standing down next GE, one is "Red Wall" so knows his days are numbered, 3 of them are in constituencies where a blue rosette on a pig would still be elected, but 2 are in more marginal seats. They have done neither themselves nor their party any favours. People will remember; but if they forget, there will be no shortage of folks prepared to remind them.
