Unlike songs that mock the performance of the opposing team, I was surprised never to hear songs in England that reminded their own teams of their duties. When I supported Rapid Vienna (which I still do to a certain extent), "We want to see Rapid" was more feared by the entire Rapid team when it came from their own supporters than criticism from the manager. Two former Rapid Wien players have confirmed this to me. Perhaps thats no longer valid today, as Rapid have obviously resigned themselves to their fate of being average also-runs and the players think merely of their bank accounts and just think "F$ck off you beggars" when they hear it.

A few years ago, my wife and I were behind the goal at Hull. Before the game kicked off there was the usual banter when all of a sudden came a chant from the Palace fans of "We pay your benefits; we pay your benefits." The shock of this on the home support and their stewards was something to behold. I have to say the effect was hilarious!
