Dembele got 26 in 55 for Celtic (aged 20-22 - 0.47 goals/game), Edouard had 66 in 116 (aged 20-23 - 0.56 goals/game).

Plus point is that he's free. There's no such thing as a guaranteed upgrade on Edouard and Mateta in the PL without spending £50m+. We could get a tune out of him and he had some good times in France. He's a viable option.

Downside is that he didn't have a great season last year, nor 2 years prior, and needs some form reversing. He's far from an obvious upgrade on Edouard - on paper he's near identical.

From Celtic’s point of view they were pretty much identical. Celtic were happy to take the money for Dembele knowing that Edouard could do the same job. The difference is that Dembele has shown he can do it in a more competitive league against better defenders while so far Edouard has not lived up to expectations. Having said that Dembele has lost form recently and it’s just possible Edouard might find his form under Roy. He is lazy and PV’s odd coaching system didn’t encourage him to work is backside off. I’d give him another season rather than go for Dembele.
