i remember Stockport (who were in the div2/championship with us back in the early 2000s) went all the way down to Conference North despite still getting 5k supporters a game. When they finally got out of that division (after about the 3 or 4th attempt) they did an open top bus from the town hall to the ground. Talk about celebrating failure. Also, the two buildings are about 800 yards apart. Must have taken about 2 minutes to drive. Edited by palace99 (03 May 2023 2.49pm)

The bus went along Thornton Heath high street, Brigstock Road then London Road. The route was too long and there were only small groups of fans along the way. I was the only one standing opposite the Brigstock Arms.

I remember we couldn’t do one in 1979 because we were a week late finishing on the Friday night before the cup final Mullery and his lot were in the air off on an end of season tour when they found out we pipped them to the title.

Perhaps a card-less game for Doucoure? One for Wayne Hennessey acknowledging the Holocaust? A manager under the age of 70 lasting more than 18 months? Nathan Ferguson being declared fit? Dubious food being capped at a certain price? Cold beer? Flood draining in the Arthur? A seated waiting area outside of Norwood Junction? Palace actually signing players with some consistency? Neil Shipperley 'keeping it in his pants'? A public apology from Benteke, Kuqi, Akinbyi, Calvin Andrew... Wayne Andrews, just about any forward outside of Lee, AJ, Morrison and Murray? There's plenty of possibilities and many more likely than for silverware coming to Selhurst Park. If we were to have one anywhere between Purley and Peckham we'll probably need some sort of Pope-esque bullet-proof glass at the top in the event of no roof!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |
