We started off the season continuing the relatively successful approach of last season in a 433 formation looking to ‘play between the lines’ to use one of Vieira’s favourite phrases. Weaknesses- Strengths -

Watch the Brighton game at SP couple weeks ago - Brighton played well, made it look easy, OK they should have made more of their chances & we only got a point because their goalkeeper gave it to us - Brighton did the basics very well - we should do that. Originally posted by PatrickA

The ball must move forward instead of side to side and the opposition's defenders and goalkeeper need to be tested for mistakes more often. This requires a level of fitness and abrasion that I'm not so sure the players have at the moment, but it's simple to understand and easily implemented.

i think it will and should be 4-4-2 with Wilf and Olise up front, and defensive midfield 4, counter attack, similar to Wilf and Townie as the two, go for the point, hope for 3, then see who is available and what division we are in at the end.

I also think the fitness of McArthur and Hughes is crucial, as their experience is badly needed, and also i wonder if Luka will regain a bit of form now a PV has gone. they were oil and water.

Sounds sensible! Leave Ayew on the bench and put him on for 15 min if we need to defend a fairytale lead (!!!!) Same goes for Schlupp, put him on for 15-20 min if we need to score.

It is exactly the lack of such holding midfielders we are in the present mess with a dearth of goals! This has been our weakness since Cabaye left (and Bannon, Hughes before him). I had hoped the introduction of Logonga and Ahamada would rectify this. Of the two Ahamada shows some promise and hopefully he will blossom. If not we could be struggling even with supposedly 'easier' fixtures coming up.

Wilf and Olise? This is why you can't be taken seriously.

Whatever formation etc it is there are a few things i'd love to see sorted out. 1: Stop the forwards constantly coming short for a pass. It stops dead any attack that we are trying to build and just ends up going back to the defence or losing possession. Actually put a bit of effort in and make some runs down the wings in the space behind. 2: When going forward get a midfielder or 2 in some space further up the field instead of just standing on the halfway line watching the game. 3: Get the lazy gits pressing for longer than 10 minutes. 4: Drop Schlupp and never let him start again. 5: Have a bloody shot instead of pissing around with it on the edge of the area.

Try crossing the ball (instead of cutting inside and then not having a shot running into traffic and then passing back to the halfway line).

Agree with all points other than 4) and even on that one I can see where you're coming from! Originally posted by joe_cpfc

Indeed.
