He may demand as much as he likes, but with Ayew and Schlupp in the team, how can we score?

There are other, much lazier players that need to go first. Schlupp and Ayew are probably not the best, but they are more goal threat than lazy Edouard - even if he's playing centre forward. He has to be one of our worst signings ever. Mateta's poor but even he tries much harder.
Another issue is Olise - what's he made of? He's non existent in anything other than dribbling and free kicks. We can't carry him - add the total light weight Eze and this is what you get.
I agree with those on here saying that listening to PV is like listening to the same song over and over again - and it's not Glad All Over.
You would think that considering the type of player Vieira was, that we'd have far more steel, fight and back bone.

I think Efan Ekoko made some good points in his commentary in the Brighton game about Vieira not giving creative players the freedom to focus on their strengths. The idea that you sometimes have to be a bit braver to yield results. I think Eze is a good case in point. He offers very little defensively but he does have that creative spark in his locker. If you play him and free him up from any defensive duties it's a risk, but it not only means he's more likely to produce something but it also gives the opposition something to think about. Obviously to us it's frustrating when you see players seemingly doing nothing, but many of the best players contribute nothing for 90% of the game, it's what they do with that 10% that wins games though. Not that I'm putting the likes of Eze or Olise in the bracket of Messi, but he is the classic example of someone who rarely runs (even walking for much of the game) but is given the freedom to do his thing. As much as I've backed Vieira, he does need to try and do something to improve us going forward.

He certainly does ... we're not creating opportunities for our front men and seem indecisive if we get anywhere the opposition's box. Unfortunately, we see the same old week after week. I hope the two new guys bring something different?

Took a look at our expected goals earlier (xG) I know it's just stats but it's interesting/ worrying to see we have the third lowest and have scored only 2 less than our expected amount. This doesn't point towards strikers continuously missing sitters but highlights the real problem, that we all know, that we create very, very little.

Edouard and Mateta might not be the best, and obviously some of their play contributes to the lack of decent chances that we are creating, however I do feel like they're also feeding off of absolute scraps.

I'd say the bigger worry is our approach play rather than being clinical. Most chances that we've had recently are just a result of fortunate circumstances, snap shots and half chances.

I'd personally just stick with Edouard as I think he's a fairly decent finisher and sort out the players behind him whose job it is to create. Fingers crossed it all clicks tomorrow but I won't hold my breath.

I stopped looking at our metrics as they are so terrible that it was depressing. I did see an interesting one today though - we have the least passes in the opposition half per defensive action in the league (ie we lose the ball too bloody much)

We have scored 8 goals from open play this season. Only Wolves (7) have fewer. Bournemouth have 13. Brighton have 29.
