Lots of good points in here. For me what's worrying is not the stats, but the way the team is playing and as others have mentioned, the apparent lack of passion and a leader on the pitch. That banner at the start of the game about remembering the passion that got us here (or similar!) was bang on as I for one am not seeing it with the current squad. Brighton are in form right now, but ffs, you wouldn't of know it was a derby match on Saturday by watching it. Hopefully these two new midfielders will bring back the stability in midfield that we're been sorely lacking this season and allow players like Olise and Eze to do what they're meant to do (as it's definitely not tracking back!) and perhaps we'll be able to see Doucoure in a more stable midfield to evaluate if he is actually any good (not convinced at the moment). We have to sign a decent centre forward in the summer though. Last one I can think of that was reliable and actually scored any goals was Murray! Mateta and Edouard are just not good enough for the prem, good to have on the subs bench if we needed fresh legs in the last 15 mins, but that's about it.
The trouble with computers, of course, is that they're very sophisticated idiots |

While points are in line with last year, the style of play is dramatically different and certainly can be attributed to injuries and failure to adequately replace departures. People may feel we are safe in 12th and the April fixtures lighten up but I can't see 3 worse teams than Palace based on the eye test. Just very difficult to watch these days. Of course, it I were a Leeds fan I keep banging my head against a wall when I see Palace above Leeds but Leeds seem to energetically run around with no plan while Palace tend to walk on the pitch. But truer words were never spoken by the poster who said a win against Brentford will have the forum talking about Europe. A win cures all. Give me a 0-1 with a Brentford OG and a deep breath until the end of march.

Every Saturday, or whenever, I used to get excited, despite wherever we were in the table or results wise, that we would either steal a win or a point from a team above us, and was optimistic that we could get a win from a team below us. This season, I go into each game just hoping we don't get totally annihilated! Having said that, despite what seems to be a misfiring set of 11 on the pitch, we have not let many games get away from us (other than Spurs) and we have found some goals and perhaps ridden our luck with VAR. Nevertheless, we cannot rely on serendipity for ever and either we fix our midfield engine quickly with Macca and the new boys, or its going to be a very painful run in!

I hope our team are all huddled round the TV watching Liverpool putting one over on Everton tonight. It'll be a good lesson for them into how to chase for the ball, stay close and support their team mates and play with passion for your team. Tell you what, Everton's James Tarkowski is lucky to still be on the pitch. Some very untidy tackles.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

apart from forest and bournemouth we must we the only team in the past 20 years out side of the "big guns" not pushing for a european spot you look at brentford and brighton... one of these will be in europe come the end of season newcastle... champions league early noughties and europe now fulham got to europa final southamption 16/17 europe leeds early noughties champs league west ham europa league last year leicester champions league after winning prem everton champions league over the years villa europa 10/11 season wolves 19/20 season

there i said it FED UP
A fabulous assessment. The best thing about Saturday was their goal wrongly ruled out and saveloy and chips on the way to the ground. I’ve watched them on and off for 45 years and had ST for 7. This lays at PV alone who I think actually thinks we are Man City. With our players we should be knackered and hoarse at the end of games but I’m worn out with boredom. Really not bothered any more if we win lose or draw. It’s the manner of getting one of those which matters.

After nearly 10 years up here you'd hope we at least play with some balls against f***ing Brighton and at least try and win the possession battle, but no. Yet again that new identity of ours turned out to be another false dawn before we go back to the usual mediocrity. I guess at least we're being mediocre in the PL as opposed to 80% of our history of being a bit s***. I don't really care about if we get Europe per se, I just want to enjoy watching us play every week and see a Palace side go into games without fear

Motivation to give more ; I from time to time watch our FA Cup games ,or brightly & Wrighty / Coppell This takes me back & influences the notion that if you try & have self belief you can press on & have achievements I wonder for those players that are not from around Sarf London or know the club history they should get motivated by looking back. Yes I get that many players play for money, cars, lifestyle etc but to have grounding Pat needs help with this mob -
