I'm worried about Humphrey Bogart we haven't heard from him in a while I hope he's okay.

Factoid on Richard Greene, as a young up and coming actor in the late 1930's he started well and went off to Hollywood where he got more fan mail than Tyrone Power (think Leo or Brad in their pomp). However it was short lived and he never quite made it in the movies.

Robin Hood is really his only major success shame for such a bright start.

That series employed several writers who'd been blacklisted in Hollywood as suspected communists. They slipped a few veiled references to the McCarthy hearings into the scripts.

He would have been 105 this year.

Still on the topic of Robin Hood, but not Richard Greene, there was a musical in the 60s called Twang, based around the Robin Hood legend. Penned by Lionel Bart, it was an unmitigated flop and cost Bart his fortune. There were plenty of well known names in the cast.

Alan-a-Dale – Elric Hooper
Sir Guy of Gisborne – Howard Goorney
Mystery Voice in "Unseen Hands" – Long John Baldry
Mutch – Kent Baker
Robin Hood – James Booth
Little John – Bernard Bresslaw
Will Scarlett – Ronnie Corbett
Friar Tuck – Will Stampe
Sheriff of Nottingham – Bob Grant
Maid Marian – Toni Eden
Prince John – Maxwell Shaw
Delphina – Barbara Windsor
Roger the Ugly – Philip Newman

I'd have paid to see Bob Grant as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Me too. And I'm sure a role could have been found for Reginald Varney too!!

The theme song for the TV series (those of a certain age will remember) started with the twang and thwack of an arrow being fired and hitting it's target. During recording one of the producers, a certain George Martin, came up with the idea of pinging a ruler on a table set up close to the microphone. Works well.

Clearly the boy had a future.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Can't hear it without thinking of Monty Python's Dennis Moore. Your lupins or your life.
