This does smack slightly of desperation. It's also interesting to note the all-time top fees paid by English clubs for a player, with Chelsea's new buy Fernandez topping the charts. The list in descending order is: Fernandez Value for money? Questionable on some of these names.

The finances involved in soccer these days feels obscene to an old 'un like me. I can't get my head round it when nurses and teachers are on strike for a raise of £10 pw. But, hey, just another sign of today's topsy-turvy world. As far as Palace are concerned, we can only dream about spending 50% of the amount Chelsea blew in this window.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

The PL a grotesque money-pit. And it has not benefitted us much on the international stage. How can Chelsea afford to spend so much money – they have spent more than LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1 combined in this window. Overall they have spent circa 600 millions and over 800 millions was spent in this window. Vital workers struggle to make ends meet. What a society.

Chelsea are a wonderfully run business. Not just a play thing for the mega rich. It's a step up from Subbuteo I guess.

If "we" keep consuming it, "they" will keep providing it. How many football fans do you think would agree to forego their season tickets and give the money to the "vital workers" instead? I ask as a "vital worker" myself.

In terms of value for money I would say Van Diijk and Lukaka, the others range from flop to good (but not worth it).

I personally think a couple of them are wasted where they are. Grealish and Sancho need more football, in my opinion. It's not good for the national side either. My own opinion is Grealish is one of the best footballers I've ever seen. Sancho just isn't fitting in and should be a lesson to others - but won't be.

You know; that club whose Surrey-based fans want the owners "out" because they feel they haven't spent enough of their money on the club.
