Mental that he didn’t start today.
Don’t know what message it sends to players, when you was the best player last game and don’t start the next.
Surely Viera must know a decent center midfielder.
Looked good again when he came on.

it may be, as suggested elsewhere, that he hadn't recovered sufficiently from Wednesday to be a starter tonight.

Oh ok. I didn’t know that. If he might not be 100% fit surely better to start him and bring him off, if he’s not right. Rather than bring him on and him break down.

Should have been a nailed on starter after Wednesdays performance ,do wonder if PV has favourites and unfortunately Will is not one of them

I can’t get my head around why he didn’t start today. We have a couple of weeks off now so surely he could have played him and not worried about fatigue.

It is definitely looking like PV just doesnt fancy him or has something against him, because Schlupp is horrific and it makes no sense to keep playing him.

Has to be the case, nothing else makes sense. That said, still the wrong decision. If you think he doesn't have 90 minutes in the tank because he's not fully recovered then start him and pull him off when he runs out of steam because he's clearly our best option alongside Doucoure. That's better than risking 60 minutes without him and bringing him on late.

With all that said, a professional athlete who trains daily and who has relatively few miles on the clock over the last two years ought to be able to recover sufficiently to play matches on a Wednesday and a Saturday. I mean if metal-hipped 35-year-old Andy Murray can play three four-hour singles tennis matches in five days, I'd have thought a footballer ten years younger with a generally healthy body could grind through 180 minutes (an hour less than just one of Andy Murray's matches). "Hasn't recovered" is a ridiculous excuse.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

I am about to lose my respect and affection for Vieira over the treatment of Hughes. Would as well rather play Luka and Riedewald over Schlupp in a starting line-up.

Maybe , PV sees him as impetuous. If he gets an early yellow card, his subsequent performance may be compromised.

Has he had any red cards in his career?

Over 12 seasons, this season and going back to 2011-12, Hughes has collected 64 yellows and 0 reds.

I'm not sure its a ridiculous excuse, sometimes even if you play and train regularly, some games just take their toll. Especially as in his case he is hardly going to be match conditioned.

But I'd tend to agree in starting him, and then replacing as/when needed
