Kofi Balmer - doesn't he have a long-throw in his arsenal? Or is it Chris Richards? One does, and as I recall, it is pretty good. Balmer does indeed have a very long throw in his arsenal (not a euphemism). I didn't see the game but to me he hasn't looked ready for the PL when playing for the U23s, even if that throw would be handy.

Interestingly the team was to be completely changed at half time but PV chose to keep KB on for another 15 minutes or so. I suspect he liked what he saw

I went to the game. I don't usually bother with friendly games, but this one I quite fancied due to the opposition. In terms of the youngsters, Balmer did well over the 90 minutes. He kept it simple and defended competently, his distribution was a little slow at times but that can be worked on. I thought JK Gordon had some good moments in the first half. He's positive in possession and not afraid to have a shot when he gets the chance. It's strange to be having the equivalent of a pre season friendly in December and I thought one or two players looked a little rusty. Oh, and we need a new penalty taker !

So many of us were locked out; it seemed like thousands. We went to the Clifton Arms, which was packed, and there were runners going to and from the ground to get updates. Didn't need any runners when Ian Walsh scored though, the noise must have carried to the middle of Croydon. There was a group of Sunderland fans in the Clifton. They'd come down from Sunderland to support Burnley as Sunderland would have gone up if we'd lost.
