If we can’t find anyone suitable maybe (and as a precaution) we should recall Scott Banks from Bradford. I’m not sure how’s he’s done up there but a talented player from what I’ve seen. Sweet left foot which may work well with Doucoure in a slightly more advanced position.

Pretty big step up for a league 2 player don't you think?

The lad is 21, if he was prem standard he'd at minimum be at a championship club. No way he'll ever make hte step up to Prem.

Apart from his excellent free kicks, he doesn't seem to have progressed sufficiently; furthermore, I get the impression he's more of an attacking midfielder than a defensive one and unlikely to be suitable to play Jimmy Mac type role. Also, he may be coming back from injury at present as he wasn't named in any of Bradford's squad after the game he last scored in and was substituted until appearing on the subs bench last time out. Finally, I think we have better options here in the Academy in David Ozoh and Killian Phillips. It will be interesting to see whether either of these get a start at Newcastle in the League Cup next month.

Why all this talk about a defensive midfielder.

Doucore is excellent and just needs someone like Hughes alongside.

What we really need is a midfield general
along the lines of a Shelvey, Bannon, Eriksen, Michael Hughes, etc.

Our lack of creativity is our weakest link and needs to be addressed soon otherwise our poor away record will leach into our home games and we will be in trouble

I agree there is a need for another midfielder. We have not really recovered from being unable to retain Gallagher for another season and imo is the reason for the formation change we have seen.

I can't see us spending big in January. Possibly some cheeky bids for players who will be out of contract in the summer. I hope there is some potential from foreign leagues. I also hope we look for some RB cover.

Up front looks like Edouard is a really good learner. The Premier is not easy but he is adapting really well. He has got very quick feet, good ball control and he is quick. As he improves his positioning is getting better. His goal yesterday was right up there as was his passing and ball control in the first half. Twenty five minutes later he was subbed but we lost our direction in the s cons half. I expect Edouard to get double figure goals this season.

I agree, he is making the runs in the box, that we’re lacking in Bentekes game ie the goal yesterday. Very good control and can beat a man. Not blessed with great pace but we have a very good player. He is also pressing more now, if that means subbing him after 65-70 minutes that’s fine. IMO Mateta is a good sub to bring on then.
Regarding Hughes, I think we saw in his cameo what he can bring to the midfield, aggressive, ball carrier and can pick a pass. Would like to see him along side Dacoure.
Having said that I thought Luka had a good game yesterday

Tricky one this, we can all see the need but with 6 players for two roles, let’s call them box to box (Schlupp mainly) and holding (Cheik), who is going out first? Jimmy, Luka, Riedewald or Hughes? For me sadly it’s Luka. Didn’t like the booing last season, losing his Dad obvs affected him badly. So if he goes it will make 50-60k available. With Jimmy fit, I think we could make it until June, without him I’m not so sure. However I worry that with a prolonged period on the sideline can Jimmy really be that affective this season? If he can what about the next, so he could be gone in June too. Seems like blasphemy to talk of him leaving but he’s going to be 36???

I don’t think O’Riley in Jan is the best idea, he needs to get a bit more experience, a season at MK Dons, and a couple at Celtic isn’t going to prepare him for the step up. So I’m not sure he is an improvement. Sander Berge I think is a better proposition. Tall which I think we’ve missed since Jedi left, extra aerial threat, he’s got some Prem experience albeit for a relegated side, and range. He’s not perhaps the creative player threat, but maybe we could shuffle things at 10 and play Eze box to box, and Wilf central as an option for the creativity in home games. I don’t see where a Cabaye type midfielder comes from at this moment in time. Steven Nzonzi at 33? I think with our transfer policy big signings in January are really unlikely. I’m sure the scouts and Dougie have got there eyes on more than a few, but is there a budget and who goes out?

The player himself supports this view, anyway if he is on season long loan then we cannot recall unless the agreement says we have an option to do so!

Sadly I agree. This lad is now at a stage of his career when he is no longer a youngster he has played several seasons in Scottish football and now league 2. He should have been playing Championship football by now knocking on the door of the first team squad. He is an excellent free kick taker but his overall game is not up to it.

Happy to be proved wrong but my guess is that he will leave the club in the next 2 years. A possible Championship player at best.
