If the Chelsea game goes ahead and there is a train strike, what is the best way to get from Gatwick to SP, or is there a kind soul that could give me a lift?

Always an issue coming from abroad, if Sky don't move the match last minute, or the French air traffic controllers aren't on strike, it's the bloody trains.

Rant over, anyone with any news, please post here as if it's off I have to cancel the flights, hotel and match tickets...grrrr

You may be lucky as I think there were some running before as not all train operators strike. Hopefully you’ll be ok.

The last game where there was industrial action (on a Sunday I think) there was a reduced service - I was coming in from Caterham & only had trains out of one of the stations instead of all 3 ( Upper Warlingham / Whytleafe / Coulsdon south) & the last usable train home was from Norwood Junction about 45 minutes after the match finished, so although it was a bit of a pain in the rear it wasnt a total balls up -

Southern have not been on strike. The problem of someone picking you up at Gatwick is, there is absolutely nowhere to pull in, without being charged a fee or fined

According to the Gatwick express website, they seem to be saying that even though the Gatwick express service itself may not run on the day of industrial action there will still be 2 trains per hour running between Gatwick & East Croydon - but there is a warning to check your first & last train times as the service will start later & finish earlier than normal

Thought of that, doesn't seem to be one.

Found this useful link.

[Link]

It also says that 1st class is declassified during industrial action, and that the trains there are will be rammed.

You should e ok to get to East Croydon
, you may even get one to Norwood Junction (London Bridge train). Rather than metro bus toCrawley, you could get train to 3 Bridges, so will not be as busy as Gatwick

Looking at the Southern Rail app (which has now been updated to consider the upcoming industrial action) plenty of trains from Gatwick to East Croydon before the game (& from East Croydon you can get to Norwood Junction easily) & after the game there is at least one train from Norwood Junction to East Croydon up until 17.30 hours & a couple of onward journey trains from East Croydon to Gatwick up until just after 18.00 hours-
