Jacko top class keeper. Seems strange these days but I remember him not wearing gloves.

Does anyone recall in which match John made his league debut for the club. It must have been 64/65 season.

I think I may have first seen him play in a post-season friendly game against Croydon Amateurs in May 1964 at the Croydon Arena. I have the programme and 18 Palace players are listed, and it states that substitutes will be allowed and that it is anticipated that "they will all take some part in the match".

Could this have been his first game in the senior side, albeit a Friendly?

John made his league debut v Swindon Town second game of the 64-65 season lost 2-0 away on August 25th.He waited along time for that as he played in the reserves from 1960-61. Bill Glazier was sold soon after to Coventry City.Palace did sign Tony Millington from West Brom and he shared the keeper place the rest of that season

Remember meeting Jacko in Stavanger probably 1974 or 5, Orient played a friendly versus Viking,Stavanger. He was injuried and on crutches. We chatted for a long time, and he said Allison got rid of him and other former stars because he wanted to create his own team. Nice guy

He earned the nickname of ‘Stonewall’ for a very good reason. An absolute legend.

The only people I ever heard call John 'Stonewall' was the newspapers. He was always just 'Jacko' to us on the Holmesdale.
Will always be my favourite goalie!
