Coming next week to visit England for 3 weeks and I'm coming to the Villa Match on 8/20. We are visiting relatives in Ipswich and will be coming from there. In the past we have driven to Epping and gotten on the tube to come into central London. With the new Elizabeth line Shenfield station is a little closer. Any opinions on the better route. Also I plan on getting to the match early - say 2 hours before kickoff. Does that sound about right or any suggestions for things to do before around the stadium. I've been to London several times but not to Selhurst so I'm a complete tourist as far as that area. I want to soak the whole thing in so any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

There is a train strike on that Saturday, best check which lines are affected. I do know Southern rail are not on strike.
There is a tube strike on Friday 19th, hopefully won’t be carried over.
Good idea to get there early, can use the fanzine

You can get the Central line from Epping to St. Paul's then walk up to City Thameslink (about 5 minutes straight down the road towards Holborn) then a train to Norwood Junction.

Think this route will be unaffected. Enjoy the trip

Get yourself down to the Pawsons arms and soak up some pre-match atmosphere

Thanks for the help! I do have tickets, I joined as an international member and used this as my one match to reserve tickets. I had tickets in April 2020 to the Burnley match in the Holmesdale Road section but of course fricking covid caused our trip to get canceled.

Where are you sitting this time? What has attracted you to “our family “? I am sure you will have a great time

I am in Section Y in the Arthur Waite - so close to the Holmesdale. I started watching EPL on NBC in the States about 6 or 7 years ago and I was super impressed by the Palace fans. They seem like the most passionate. Of course Wilf is my favorite player (along with Zlatan). It's odd because I'd never followed football/soccer before. I never played it - my son did when he was a kid. We played baseball, basketball and american football. After I watched the Prime Video series When Eagles Dare I'm hooked for life.

Good on you. Hope you have a great time although you might find the ground looks a bit different to how it does on TV -still that's Palace experience!
