it says it's a free after the expiry of his contract. I was under the impression he had one year left.

When the potential fee is low I think in those circumstances the club allow the player to move on a free to enable them to negotiate better wage terms.

As we supposedly paid a 6 figure for him it would have been nice to get something. I suppose the odd £50k is meaningless these days to Prem clubs.
