John Barry's input should not be ignored. Apparently the original score from Monty Normal was a light calypso rift in keeping with the other song he wrote for Doctor No "Underneath the mango tree" The producers weren't happy with the Bond theme so asked John Barry to write an arrangement. Norman may have wrote the song but the one we recognise is the John Barry version.

His stuff was often simple and repetitive, but always produced emotion. His best work was probably for 'Somewhere in Time' for me at least.

A genius indeed. So many absolutely awesome film soundtracks, like Out of Africa, The Ipcress File and The Quiller Memorandum to name but three.
