I have to say, having gone to the first league game there when we played them..if the Spuds actually sang for more than 30 secs it'll be the best atmosphere in any English ground...but they can't keep it up. Plus, they also re-feed the crowd noise over the speakers...so as a one off against their rivals..can't say i'm surprised but over a season..meh!

I too loved the atmosphere in olden days. Fond memories of the Brighton chaps at the Goldstone happily chanting 'you'll never reach the station!'. What fun we had. Amazing how such fans can be emboldened by crowd segregation.

I have been to a few London stadiums as a neutral this season! and have to say: I was not impressed with the "Atmosphere" in other stadiums! chelsea, arsenal, spurs, west ham the fans are so negative! Never get behind thier own team and constantly call their own players the C word! only when they are winning is there a bit of atmosphere. On sunday i was at the emirates and when leeds got 1 goal back the atmosphere turned sour with fans getting on thier players backs! Wheras with us we support out players 100 percent! (mostly) and I do think we have the best atmosphere!

Yep noted that too. Forgive me for saying so but I prefer the raucous, primal atmosphere you used to get at grounds, not so much anymore. Most Prem teams these days have their 2,3,4,5 safe songs, everyone knows the words and can join in a lovely ‘ol sing along at their 200,000 seater stadiums. Boring for me. Same could be said about us to be fair, but football is so commercial these days at the highest echelons you just don’t have that same feel. I’ll take the palace fans chanting ‘off!off!off!’ after Akinbyi commuted a foul, whilst playing for us, in perfect, frothing at the mouth, vindictive unison over ‘we’ve got super pat Vieira’ like the school choir any day. I’m still too young to be sounding like an old fart but I enjoyed the ‘atmosphere’ of yesteryears far more, not just a jolly old sing along for the whole family to enjoy. I’ve just reread that, I need a pat on the shoulder, accompanied by ‘there, there’ and then time for bed methinks! COYP Me too, it’s all a bit contrived now, you’ll never beat those crackling, sometimes even a bit hostile atmospheres of the past, although at my age now I don’t miss the ducking and diving afterwards trying to avoid trouble, I’m not as nimble as I used to be

Don't miss dodging the trouble afterwards at all! I remember going to Cardiff v Palace at Ninian Park the last season before they moved to the new stadium... Remember spending the game hearing the coins thrown by the Cardiff fans pinging off the metal barriers we were standing against... And Cardiff didn't even have a problem with us so God knows what it must of been like for teams they hated!!!
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

I think they just hate anyone from across the border, it’s an England v Wales thing for them, bloody rude if you ask me, we let them play in our league and they get all nasty

To me there's something seriously wrong if you are top half of the Premier league with a 60,000 seater stadium & you have to rely on pre recorded crowd noise to boost the atmosphere. Originally posted by Runningman

I had no idea they did this sort of thing. Call me old fashioned, but if a football club needs to generate artificial crowd noise, there's something inherently wrong. Thank goodness for Selhurst and a proper football atmosphere. Proud to be a Palace supporter.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I did hear Gary Neville talking a bit of drivel. On commenting how great the atmosphere was, he stated that the spurs players dealt with it better, well yeah, no s*** Sherlock, the bulk of the crowd were spurs fans being the home team, they were bound to be up for it with the crowd mostly behind them Totally agree

Went to Spurs v Palace at Xmas. I was there and got hammered and caught Covid. As for the game apparently Ferguson made his debut. We are always loud away. Best home fans by far I have seen this season were Leeds on a damp midweek night. They were very loud consistently throughout the game.

Spurs fan friend says they piped atmosphere into Wembley a few times but have never done so at the THS.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |
