I tend to agree that this topic is being overblown. What I say comes from two ardent Palace fans, both in their 50s, who go all over the world to watch Palace (all home and away including all pre season). They say there are frequently nasty incidents between Palace fans at away games, and that there seems to be a bit of jockeying to be the dominant group. They say it sours things.

For various reasons I haven't been to an away game for a long time but happen to be going to Villa with my son. So I'm more interested than normal.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

When I was a lad in the 70s, there used to be trouble at many games between rival fans, including the occasional running battle on the terraces involving dozens of people. Some now respected older Palace fans used to be some of those yobbos when they were younger, and maybe still are, for all I know. South London has never been for the faint hearted. When I was a lad in the 70s, there used to be trouble at many games between rival fans, including the occasional running battle on the terraces involving dozens of people. South London has never been for the faint hearted.

That said, I do feel that the club should have, and I'm sure does have, a no yobbo policy. What happens outside the stadium is harder to control.

And today we live in a world with more sensitivity to such things (whether we like it or not), and far more diverse entertainment alternatives.
