Yes, like the 'assist' Connor Wickham provided for Jordan Ayew that time against West Ham

Most of the statistics used to determine how well a team or a player is doing are pretty pointless. Shots on target - a weak, scuffed shot straight to the keeper is a shot on target but one that hits the post or crossbar is a miss. Passing accuracy - always looks good for players that constantly pass sideways and back. Goals scored include penalties. Luka scored lots of goals one season but only one wasn't a penalty. Fouls committed - there's a difference between a little push and a Luke Ayling style cruncher.

If Wilf stays and we continue with 4-3-3 mainly, could we afford to get anyone better than Wilf as the CF, the way we play the CF doesn't play with his back to the goal and hold the ball up, as we try and work it through midfield and get it wide, maybe as he has lost a bit on dribbling and pace, he still has the upper body strength and can certainly finish, Maybe another right footed winger is what's needed.

For me its about options. Lets assume we get rid of Benteke...I know, unlikely. But then we'd have JPM, OE, LP, WZ and JA that could play up top Then we'd have WZ, MO, JA, EE, and OE that could fill the wide spots. Unless something mad happens over the summer, Wilf starts if fit. So if we get a better striker than JPM, Zaha stays wide. If we get a great new wide man, Wilf moves up top. I'd go so far to say that one of our strengths is that we have a really adaptable front line. With probably only JPM and MO that ply in 1 position.

agree - also wining a penalty doesn't count as an assist for some reason. Wilf would have about 20 extra assists over the last 5 years years if they were. Also if a shot is saved and the rebound scored that is not an assist too, but a 2 yard pass is counted. What the quote about stats being like a lampost for a drunk person. It is used more for leaning on rather than for illumination.
