Not sure where you get the "anti Roy sentiments" bit from I said Roy deserves "a good send off" - for all he has done for us..!!

All I'm saying is that Roy is nowhere near as great a Manager as some seem to be suggesting - that in fact he is very limited in his style of play and tactics.

As I said there is a counter argument that we under achieved under Roy given the resources he had available due to his negative tactics and formations.

Then beyond that if that doesn't work he is very stubborn in his views to the point of "its my way or the highway" - we endured almost 2 seasons of that..!!

On the whole "eye infection" thing, so that stopped him talking did it - really..!! Look Roy has a history of ducking press interviews when things don't his way as I alluded to.

Absolutely he deserves a good send off and our thanks - but for me he's nowhere near a Palace Manager legend - which seems to be the suggestion/inference is some quarters.

At the end of the day football is matter of opinions and this is mine - not asking you to agree with me, in the same way that I respect and appreciate your's and others opinion's.

Will there be a clap/cheer on 73 minutes?

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

Only if we score.

Thought he perhaps milked it a bit too much yesterday given Watford's predicament. If the boot was on other foot I think I might have had the hump.

IMHO - Roy has an undeserved reputation of being a decent Manager - he is in fact a Manager with very limited in formations and style of play..!!

He proved that with both England and Palace..!!

Noticed yesterday when Watford’s fete of relegation confirmed - Ray Lew did the MOTD interview - Roy nowhere to be seen..!!

If memory serves me correct didn’t he do exactly the same thing after the Iceland debacle - resigned and tried to avoid doing any press interview on the basis he had resigned..!!

He also did the same for us in a game where we got hammered - can’t recall which one specifically.

Roy’s record at Watford is even worse than his predecessor Ranieri and Watford have gone down without a whimper.

There’s an argument that says that we under performed under Roy given the resources he had it his disposal due to his unwavering commitment to “Roy ball”..!,

Look I’m not saying don’t give him a great send off - he obviously deserves that - but I just think there a lot of “rose colored Roy glasses” about just how good he actually was..!!

I for one am so happy we now have Vieira and give Watford a royal hammering on Saturday.

Very harsh. Roy has managed 4 different countries in addition to his club career so is clearly a talented manager.

In his 1st season at Palace we were a complete mess, had no striker and a terrible Jan window, yet he kept us up quite comfortably in the end and we played some great football at times. He deserves great credit for this.

Yes the last 2 seasons have been terrible at times but again he's resources have been limited as we were still paying off the Tekkers and Sakho transfers - big transfer fees, high wages and not performing on the pitch. This ensured we kept within FSS guidelines.

As for Zaha well Wilf was probably our best performer in Roy's first 2 years. Year 3 he did spend all season sulking and massively underperformed, but last year Roy changed from 433 to 442 to give him more freedom and greater involvement and on the whole that worked quite well.

As for your ridiculous comment that he hides from interviews he was unwell last week - shingles i believe - so there was a simple explanation. Didn't Fergie refuse to be interviewed by the BBC for years over something quite minor?

Anyway, he got a decent send off, many Palace players were happy to wish him well, including Wilf, and we got 3 points.

Clinton Morrison summed it up well on Sky when he described Roy as establishing us as a Premier League team.

Four years managing us in the top flight without a serious relegation battle following on from other managers who either lost the plot or fvcked off bitching about recruitment is impressive IMO.

good post - not only did Roy stabilise things but he must have been very frustrated every transfer window, yet being the gentleman he was he never criticised anyone or questioned the club's hierarchy. Impressive
