Not sure about your final statement re next year being JPM's year, though. If he can remain the no. 1 striker then I could see him hitting 10-15 league goals. Said with A little more hope than expectation, but in all honesty, If it's the midfield priority rebuild this summer, it'll be the strikers next.

If JPM starts next season well (very possible) then I could easily see him getting above 15 goals. That would be incredible. I also think Edouard could get similar playing as an inside left. Suspect over the course of 38 games, Edouard would do better than Wilf for goals but worse for assists.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

I agree with what you say the problem is we have 3 CF, cost about 55m between them and are on about 230k a week between them and they are all under contract for at least another season, but although Mateta looks good value, and is the best he is a bench player really, so what to do with Edouard and Benteke? and who to bring in if Nketiah doesn't want to come That's the thing, I just don't see it that way. As I've said previously, I think Mateta at his best is marginally better than Eduoard and Benteke at their worst. The trick is can we find a way to get the other two into form. Because quality wise, they're far superior in my opinion.

Unfortunately the Premier League is a bit too fast for Edouard. Scottish football more his standard I am afraid. Might do well in the Championship. Touch of the Dwight Gayles about him.

Think people are being overly harsh on Mateta. He's improved no end since arriving, and after a difficult start has cemented his place as 1st choice striker in the Team. He's by no means the finished article, but I think he shows good movement and desire, and generally hits the target. At 24 he still has time to improve further. Like *most (the best seem to be able to score in any environment) strikers He needs the correct service that suits him - or needs to adapt his play to get his chances. The second takes time, and is the issue most new players face. A truly prolific striker is hard to come by, and there are no guarantees that they will succeed at a new club. I dare say that this year has been about Benteke's Successor: Mateta or Edouard. Mateta apppears to have won that battle. Edouard could still come good and Benteke is a good sub option. We need to focus on the rebuilding of the midfield this summer(and keeping the likes of Eze and Olise). Strikers are not a priority - although the nature of the position is that you should not miss out on a desired striker if they become available.. which is what I think is happening with Nketiah. Mark my words; Next year is JPM's year. I agree that the Midfield is the most important section, all i hope is we get the players we want tied down before we start dishing out contracts to all and sundry

The demands of the league. I've often thought that it's harsh to expect someone to hit the ground running, and can take players a season to adjust to their new club. Don't write him off yet.

I think he's found both the training and the games to be on a totally different level. But he's young and I think if he has the right attitude, he'll come good.

I think he also needs to work a bit more on his fitness. He rarely looks like he's able to complete 90 minutes. Everything is a bit quicker in the Premier League. He's already a better player than most of us ever thought he was going to be, so definitely heading in the right direction.

Mateta has shown that he is willing to do the hard yards and whilst he often comes off after 70 minutes or so, that's because he's constantly on the move to stretch the defence or run behind or even come deeper for the ball. Both forwards need more time to settle into PL football imo.
