This is potentially one of the most outrageous pieces of legislation ever.

The people of this country cannot stand for this kind of restriction on freedom of speech.
Effectively, the government could decide what you can and can't say on the internet because it might be 'harmful'.

Does anyone see where this is going and why?

They want to screw us over and stop us objecting to it. It is that simple.
You could soon be prosecuted for stating an opinion with no law broken.

Did we just wake up in a parallel dystopian universe?

A similar issue as the Policing Bill that just passed the Lords that I posted about earlier. I'm all for people making bellends of themselves on the Internet, but I don't think that there should be ill defined and subjectively applied legal consequences for opinion or protest - which is pretty much what this comes down to.

Government set left against right, and right against left in order to push this stuff through. People feel like they've 'got one over' on their imagined 'opposites' without considering that the exact same laws will inevitably be used against them too, so are a detriment to society as a whole. Both as bad as each other really which is why stuff like this doesn't even make waves, while people lose their minds over which bathroom a tranny is using, or want to cancel others based on comments from 279 year ago. Directed outrage.

These are non partisan issues at their core but are painted as anything but to push them through and gift more power to government.

The Trades Descriptions Act might come into play as well.

It been said long ago and many times before this day but tyranny is ultimately what neo and social liberalism leads to. Since Blair these restrictions have been introduced.

The Tories are an utter disgrace. No real Tory agrees with this.

No matter this take or that take politically, you're right. The powers that be are playing us and we all need to wake up to that. I would much rather massively disagree and argue with an actual person who I politically disagree with, than be descended upon by a government with a subjective / arbitrary take that they decide to blot out and criminalise. It's a power issue rather than a political or opinion based one. People are caught up in 'teams' sh!t, but whether left or right, they (government) don't care. We fall into their trap. It's genuinely tragic and extremely dispiriting. We're tying our own noose.
