I'm sorry, but you and painter are so wrong. People actually questioned him at the start of his first season because he took time to get going but once he did he was absolute class and everyone in the game including the England manager seemingly agreed. This season he hasn't had a run of games at any point; however, next season if we can get a proper box-to-box defensive midfielder to sit alongside Kouyate then maybe we could play Eze between Zaha and Olise with a striker in front as the focal point, similar to the way West Ham set up. Whatever the case I'd put a tenner on Eze getting an England call-up before the end of next season. That is 100 percent correct
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

Yes maybe a bit harsh on him, but overrated players have got in England squads on the back of a handful of decent performances in the past, it does happen. I hope I’m wrong, because he did show flashes of brilliance, but for me, it was just that, flashes. Now after his injury, he’s just not standing out at all, which is why he hasn’t had that run in the team this season. Eze is great on the ball, but lousy off it. His performance v Chelsea reminded me of Wilf in his Man U and two England games - he gets lost against tactically superior teams - every time he got anywhere near the ball it was in our half and he had no one in front of him to pass to. Our gnarled old pros don't have his tricks, but they have a much better understanding of where they're supposed to be at any given time. You could play Eze like a Chamakh as Lanzo has said, but he is no use as a substitute for Gallagher, that we now know, and those who were clamouring for his inclusion were deceived by his moments of brilliance - great skill and talent, but he has to add a lot to his all round game.

I agree in part, he should not be considered as an alternative to Gallagher but as a playmaker alongside or in front of a Gallagher type player. I would love to keep Gallagher but if we can’t then we need to look for a top class engine room type player to replace him. I believe that Eze will have to get better off the ball to be successful within this team but think he can and will do that. In fact I don’t think there is room in any top team for a Rolls Royce type player any more as the game has moved on, so he will need to acknowledge that generally and work harder if he wants to go all the way to the top.
