I believe WH is due to win his 100th international cap this evening.

I know he had his knockers on HOL (ooh err, missus) but I for one congratulate him on the achievement.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

was never a fan
(we've had some great keepers in the past , from john Jackson, in my personal memory)
but good luck to him.

Fair play to him, but I do find it mental Wales have not been able to produce a better keeper in the last 15 years - he's barely a Premier League standard player and if we're honest, should not really be close to that type of international career.

And no one coming through either ?

Think Danny Ward is 2nd choice and he sits on Leicester’s bench each week.

I just checked and the #2 yesterday was a bloke called Adam Davies who has recently signed for Sheff Utd - played most of his club football in League 1, with a few Championship seasons.

Probably says it all!

Has inspired me to look for any Welsh heritage! I must be worth at least 20 caps on that fact.

Hennessey was after all a GK with whom we stayed in the PL for many seasons, that should not be forgotten.

I find him very hard to dislike, barring his allegiance to the National Socialist German Workers' Party, but he did become somewhat of a figure of fun for me which floated between amusement, anger and despair frequently!

I'll still maintain to this day I have never seen anybody look less capable of utilising their own physical being on a pitch then him. Being 6'6 or whatever he is did prove misleading. I remember him once running to save a corner by kicking out for a throw in instead, I was sitting in the Glaziers lounge. The ball was travelling out, in a straight line about half way between the six yard box and the edge of the penalty area... he had plenty of time to get there... but only managed to slide just to make contact with it. A corner was given as he didn't make it in time. Was a truly baffling experience watching that and trying to absorb the reality of that struggle for him to move about 7 yards especially with the clear exertion of effort written on his boat.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Congratulations to Wayne Hennessey for getting a 100 caps .
I for one liked him , he was not that bad a keeper as some made out .
All keepers make mistakes even the ones we got now .

I'm very happy to contribute to this thread and offer WH many congratulations on the fine, and rare, achievement of earning 100 caps for his country.

I never understood why so many on here were critical of him because he loyally served our club very well indeed.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Still a figure of fun for me, still maintain we needed or even justifiably desired a better keeper but wholeheartedly concur with these sentiments. There's the easy laugh out of him but I would resist to deride or mock him with any real feeling. Won't go down as the greatest goalkeeper we ever had but is hardly on a Bamford level of failure at our club or Akinbyi level of ridiculousness.

Congratulations WH a great achievement, apparently only two other players have achieved that for Wales, one being Gareth Bale.

See! He was Palace all along

Remember that game, I was somewhat trolleyed in the Alleyn's Head in Dulwich for a quiz night, ironically, at the time!
